Mem Day Weekend
First, the Bolder Boulder pics. I didn't do a very good job of capturing Scott photos this year - but there he is in the orange shorts and the white Gijima Team singlet. First pic is from about mile 1 and the second pic is right before the finish line in the stadium.
Next, photos from the after party with the Gijima Team running group and their families. Somehow Scott and our buddy, Mike, were convinced by the host's daughters to wear fairy wings for part of the evening. And as evidenced below, the host's dog basically adored Scott. It might've been the wings.

Speaking of pets and total adoration, here are some cat pics from the weekend.

Mountain Lions on the Loose
A case of mistaken 'felinity'
House cat mistaken for cougar leads to police chase
That fantasy became a reality for one Boulder house cat Friday morning as police — who were under the impression they were after an animal that posed a threat to more than just the carpet — spent an hour trying to chase it out of central Boulder. Boulder police and Colorado Division of Wildlife officers were dispatched to Lover's Hill Park at 23rd and Bluff streets to chase a mountain lion out of the area. A witness told police the lion was seen a little before 8 a.m., according to officials.
But the mountain lion — which the witness told police probably weighed 85 pounds — turned out to be a house cat. Initially, Boulder police spokeswoman Julie Brooks said police responded to the scene and hazed the mountain lion away."They pushed it back west," she said. But Jennifer Churchill, a wildlife division spokeswoman, said one of her agency's officers responded to the scene and interviewed the witness. It turned out, she said, that the offending animal wasn't actually a mountain lion. "She pointed to it, and our officer said, 'No, ma'am, that's a house cat,'" she said. "That does happen sometimes."
To which Brooks, the police department spokeswoman, responded: "I don't think we would chase around a house cat for an hour." Actually, they were. Brooks later called to say officers never spotted the mountain lion they thought they were chasing. "We never actually saw the animal," she said. "We were chasing barking dogs, looking for this animal in this area, but our officers never actually saw it."
The report came a day after wildlife officers shot and killed a cougar in a northwest Boulder neighborhood. Officers from the Division of Wildlife shot the mountain lion in the backyard of a home on Linden Park Drive on Thursday. The cougar didn't show any fear of humans, which wildlife officials regard as a dangerous sign.
We think it was Mille, but its hard to be sure. You can see how there might be confusion:

The Cats Are Always Cute...
...though this blog might not demonstrate that all that well. Don't worry, Brian, there should be plenty of cute cat photos captured and shared again soon.
First of all, here's a Happy Birthday to Kylie! Hoping you guys have had fun celebrating. A special meow, meow has been sent from Aspen & Millie.
Next, photos from Sara's trip to New York City and Katie's 30th birthday. We went to Central Park on Sunday where Pete rowed Katie and me around the pond for awhile...it was lovely.

And then on Katie's birthday morning, we started the day off right with some present opening and 30 pink roses - followed much later on by a birthday dinner. Check out the photo Katie's holding of mom and dad 5 days before Katie was born WAY back in 1977. Crazy!

Rita's Birthday!
Happy birthday wishes to Rita! We celebrated here in Boulder by going to the econ department's graduation ceremony where Scott got his big fancy-shmancy award. We've got a few photos but the lighting was quite poor. You may have to use your imagination a little.

Sadly, our oven broke - no idea how so Scott tried to get in there and fix it. It came back to life for a few hours but is now broken again. Millie made her way in the oven to explore such an interesting space while it was off/broken and Scott was fiddling with it.
The good photos just keep on coming! First, we have Aspen taking a long, deep nap on the couch. It's what he does best. Then we have Millie watching the NFL draft on our brand new replacement tv.
And surprise, surprise, another photo of Aspen lounging, this one is with Sara.
Here are Millie and Scott enjoying some time together on the couch, with Millie curled up in her blanket.
Here we have Pickles, the neighborhood kitten. Picking Pickles up was a reality check of just how light most cats are - not like our two bulldozers.

Where do we spend our time anyway?
Aspen and Millie are indoor cats (obvious from Aspen's gleaming white coat) and therefore haven't had a chance to venture out and see CU's campus before. They asked for some photographs of the library and econ building so they'd know where we work - thought our various fam and friends might be interested as well.
Don't worry, cute cat photos coming soon. Like Millie hanging out in the broken oven and the neighborhood kitten, Pickles.

Scott is a genius
In case you weren't fully aware of how great Scott is, here's another chance to remind you. The Economics Department has awarded Scott with the GRADUATE AWARD FOR PUBLIC POLICY RESEARCH. It was established by anonymous donors to provide fellowships for graduate students enrolled in the Department of Economics, doing research in the area of economics as it relates to public policy issues, including but not limited to public finance, environment, health, transportation, educations, industrial organization, and international trade. The faculty nominated and voted, proving just how impressive Scott and his research are.In a nutshell, Scott is getting recognized for his awesomeness. He'll officially be awarded the prize at the econ department's graduation ceremony next Thursday. I'm imagining that he'll take away a huge trophy stuffed with cash. Think of all the cat condos that could buy! Kidding, don't worry. We'll buy a giant salmon treat instead. Again, kidding. Sorry Aspen.
And in other news, a hearty congrats to Kylie for landing a great job with a new law firm - Holladays everywhere are dominating.
And a final note of well wishes to mom and Aunt Sue for the happiest of birthdays today! Love you guys!
